The show starred Ryan Mey (Lt. Jim Johnson, 2004-2010) and Ryan Webber (Sgt. Rick Riverson (2004-present) in humorous police situations. The show was created as a satire of COPS and other comedies, featuring the officers rarely solving crimes. The show continued it's run until the end of the 3rd season (December 2010), when series star Ryan Mey left the show.
Season 4 debuted in February of 2011 and was first tested as a spin-off series titled "Rick & Burt: New Adventures of the County Sheriff's Department. After a brief hiatus the producers officially renamed the show "County Sheriff". Season 4 was vastly different than previous seasons as series co-star Ryan Webber's character was promoted to Lieutenant. In the show, Riverson hires a new deputy (Brett Christiansen 2010-present) to replace Jim Johnson as his partner. Brett reprises a role he previously played in the series as a criminal, humorously, Rick can't recall that particular arrest. Rick also begins a season long quest to locate former partner and best friend Jim. It's rumored that Bright Idea Pictures is currently negotiating Ryan Mey's return to the series in 2012.
